Gorgeous Day
05.13.08 (4:06 pm) [edit]It's an absolutely perfect day outside today. I'm writing from my front step. There's a red squirrel giving crap to the dog from the upper branches of the pine tree, but the dog seems oblivious. A beetle is making scuffling noises in the dry leaves near my feet. My toes are stretched out and digging into the grass. A red robin stealthily hunts for bugs in the moss under the flowering crab apple tree. In the distance a Merlin flies around screeching to its mate. The sun is warm and the breeze is slight. I believe that it is this kind of sublime peace that some people search their whole lives for and never find. If I died right here, right now I could honestly say I had for one moment found perfect happiness. :)

I think that, in a way, those moments help us to be able to (at least occasionally) forgive the Universe for all the bad stuff... and also to be able to keep going. As long as we know that moments like those are possible, it gives us something to live for.
I'm glad that you had one of those moments. :)

I really think that life is all about finding those moments...making them for yourself if you can. I think that nobody is happy all the time and forever...that's what fairy tales are for...rather, people are happy for moments here and there throughout the day/week/month/year. The more moments like that we have, the "happier" we are. I think that it's a mistake to think it can be a sustained thing. We'd get bored too quickly!
